Baseball Breakfast Bites #14
Some easily digestible baseball bites to start your morning off right
Baseball is officially officially here now that we’ve watched two fairly entertaining games in Tokyo. My biggest takeaway was frustration with the lack of confidence in letting the starters go longer than four or five innings. We have this incredibly hyped two game series featuring starts from Yamamoto, Imanaga, and Sasaki and they rewarded the Japanese fans by allowing them to pitch a combined 12 innings. Sasaki himself didn’t even get to 60 pitches. The games themselves were fine, it just feels like MLB under delivered a little on what the Japanese fans were most excited for.
That was probably my best Clint Eastwood “Get off my lawn” moment I’ve had in awhile. I don’t know why it fired me up so much, but it did. There’s still a long season ahead and plenty more to be both excited and disappointed about so at this point I may as well just take that as a warm up for my expectations.
Aaaaanyways let’s get back into some other random baseball bites I have bouncing around in my head. I apologize on the delay of this one. I’ve been working hard behind the scenes to get a lot of draft related content out that I’m running out of time on. I’ve also been in talks with someone else to help contribute here a couple of times a months. Lots of exciting things coming down the Fake Baseball pipeline!
At this point I’m out on Jared Jones even if he doesn’t need surgery. Having this elbow discomfort pop up this morning, get imaging done, and already be looking for a second opinion is not a good sign
If you’ve been reading fake baseball, or talking to me in the DMs, you know how in I was on Jared jones this year. He’s my SP2 in TGFBI and I had plans to take at least two more shares of him. Best case scenario right now feels like 2024 Kyle Bradish. Worst case would be Tommy John. Please lord don’t let the same fate fall upon Paul Skenes.
Marcelo Mayer now has a shot to break camp as the Red Sox opening day second baseman and he’s worth keeping an eye on
With all the talk rightfully surrounding Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony, I think a lot of people forget Mayer is also a top prospect himself. He’s got more doubles power than home run power, he doesn’t make the best contact (73% in 2024), but he does get on base at a high clip and steals bases. He’s not going to blow anyone away with his production should he get the nod at second base, but he’s now on my radar in points leagues.
Tanner Scott is the RP to own in Los Angeles
It shouldn’t be a surprise but based on ADP it’s going to surprise at least a few people. Both Michael Kopech and Kirby Yates were being drafted ahead of Scott at one point despite Scott signing the monster contract. He got the first look at a save for the Dodgers this season and looked sharp. This may be your last chance to get him at any kind of discount in fantasy baseball drafts.
It took me forever to get around to finishing Smile 2 and I’m glad I did. It’s the first horror movie I’ve given five stars in a long time
The amount of times I caught myself saying “wait, what?” Because the twists just kept happening felt infinite. Admittedly, I did not enjoy the first movie very much. I thought it was a bit clunky and predictable. The second one is everything but that. You’ll never know what’s coming, every time you think you’ve figured it out they twist it on its head. And they did an amazing job of setting it up for a third installment in the series as well. If you enjoy scary/horror movies, Smile 2 is a must watch.
